Ready. No Matter what. A Post-Election Preparation Guide for Social Change Leaders.

The election is days away. As leaders working towards a better future, regardless of sector or issue, this moment represents a monumental reveal of our future selves. Will our work continue with similar constraints and opportunities? Will it radically change? Will we enter a moment of chaos and ambiguity? Or will we, at long last, have a sense of stability? Regardless of what actually transpires on election day and in the weeks to come, it is essential that we prepare ourselves, our teams and our stakeholders for the possibilities that may unfold.

What does it mean to be prepared for the future? At the With/In Collaborative, we believe that this is as much an internal process as it is a strategic one. As leaders, our readiness begins in our own self-awareness and then extends to those we seek to support. We ask: Where do I source the calm and compassion I need to be present for others? What will those in my network be experiencing over the next few weeks? And lastly, what strategies and partnerships are needed to absorb new risks and opportunities in our work?

The purpose of this guide is to support preparation for the post-election period. Our goals for this exercise are as follows:

  • Learn an accessible framework for scenario planning that can be easily shared with your team and other stakeholders.
  • Explore three plausible post-election scenarios that might unfold and the implications of each
  • Examine unfolding needs and possibilities that may exist within and across the scenarios to inform your current strategy as a leader, organization or network

In this guide, we take you into possible futures. The intent is to explore a wider range of implications and options ahead of each of these potential outcomes. The detailed specifics of the scenario are not important. The important part of this process is to tap into what’s needed to build the resilience of the systems you are in, and to make choices about your leadership, your teams needs, and those most impacted by the work that you do

This guide can be used by individuals or teams and adapted as needed. We have included tips for facilitation throughout the guide. .
